No more finals!

Say that you carry out a reform at UDB where term exams are no longer required, but instead, the university switches to ongoing assessment including projects and assignments. How can this be done? What are the obstacles? Who would oppose? How will the students react?

  1. I think everybody will happy because exams will not exist anymore. however not only students will happy but also teachers why? because they will not check and made test anymore. Although test are instruments/ guides that teachers use to measure students knowledege for later being grade. oral assesment will not enough beacuse we must to make sure if the student really have learned smth not just repeat or immitate what other said.

  2. I think that this reform can be done through a conducting training of the teachers into this new methodology.
    The most important obstacle is the acceptability of this new reform.
    I think that teachers would oppose at first because projects and assignments required more planning and guidance. Also, tests are easier to check, and projects and assignments required more time.
    I think that the students’ reaction will be positive because they tend to prefer projects and assignments instead of a test.

  3. I think that the reform could be possible to do it, if teachers have clear what and how they will evaluate instead of exams. It is true for teachers the reform could be a little complicated because they would have to work more when they assign the projects, homework - assignments and at the moment of assessing.
    For students the reform would be WONDERFUL! students do not like to do exams becuase it is stressful and they get nervous and anxious. Those are some of the reasons why students fail exams. So they would prefer projects or similar activities.

  4. we can not ignored exams, because we need a guide/ document that show us the evidence of what students know. that evidence should be trustful for being examine for us and got into a conclusion to make sure students have learned,an because exams are individual answer. besides by gathering students knowledge we will be able to know if they are able to pass to the next level or still they are mising some gaps.

  5. I think that Students would agree on that, but that could mean they would have to much work to do. In addition, teachers should be prepared with the methodology that they will use and the materials that have to be given to students, the criteria for the projects and assignments.

By eliminating term exams and implementing constant assessments and projects the students performance would improve because they will be applying the knowledge the get inmedatly and if its practical it would be even better. In some way, testers or teachers would oppose in the sense that it's really hard to be evaluating every one or two weeks due the amount of work they would be having to grade. Also, this method would be suitable for technical and vocation education where the improvement of students must be seen and noticiable. Students will se their streghts and weaknesses and they will take a more active role in their own formation as professionals.

  7. I consider that homeworks can improve student’s study skills and attitudes and promote students independence and responsibility. Also students have the opportunity to use their knowledge in an engaging and challenging way. This kind of work promotes critical thinking skills and encourage creativity. But for teachers a mayor consideration of using projects and assigments is the time involved in creating and checking them, because they have to desing carefully the criteria in the use of rubrics for fairness assessment.   8. I belive that almost the studentes will be agree with not to do test because they won't feel the estress, presure of time and nervous that people have when do a test. And also i think that it's good idea the the teachers let assigments or projects to evaluate because in this way studentes can be more responsables and they will feel the nesecity to investigate more about the topics also the teacher's help is necesary because by such time the teacher has to ask the advance of the project and give some advices and guide of how to continuing to do the project. I know that it implicate more time to evaluate to the students because the teacher has to create and plan very carfully the projects and the assigments for the students understand what the teacher want and what he/she is going to evaluate.
